Born in the year 2000 the young ambitious Orcia Doc is rapidly improving its quality and is now among the emerging small Italian denominations. During the Orcia Wine Festival in April 2016 the Consortium renewed its Board of Directors reconfirming Donatella Cinelli Colombini as President, Giulitta Zamperini and Roberto Terzuoli as vice presidents. Councilors  are Andrea Giorgi (Sampieri del Fà), Marco Capitoni of the winery Capitoni, Paolo Salviucci (Campotondo), Emanuele Bizzi (Trequanda), Antonio Rovito (Val d’Orcia Terre Senesi) Giuseppe Olivi (Olivi- le Buche) Roberto Rappuoli (Podere Forte) e Valentino Berni (Loghi). Gabriella Giannetti (San Savino) is Secretary  and Marco Turillazzi auditor. Donatella Cinelli Colombini starts a second term thanks to her previous commitment over the last three years. Events, contacts and communication summarized in the project “Orcia, the most beautiful wine in the world”.

“Orcia Doc is produced in about seventy  wineries, 41 of which are members of the Consortium. Orcia is still a vine made by artisans who follow their wine from the vineyard to the buyer of the bottle” explained Mrs Cinelli Colombini. The total production is 240,000 bottles a year with Sangiovese grapes the main ones of the red wines (Orcia has a min. of 60% and Orcia Sangiovese min.90% in the Reserve too and small quantities of White Orcia Doc, Rosé and Vin Santo.

Orcia is produced in land belonging to twelve municipalities and is among the most beautiful and uncontaminated rural areas, for this reason the area has become an important tourist destination and gets a million visitors a day. “These visitors are the main market of Orcia wine. Plus the fact that 65% of the wineries have accommodation and/or a  restaurant. I can therefore state that Orcia is the most touristic denomination in Italy” added the president.

The Consortium received from the Ministry of Agriculture in 2014 the acknowledgement Erga Omnes and every year proposes a large number of events. In collaboration with ONAV Siena mini courses (Orcia Wine Class) on wine appreciation are offered to tourists, and in 6 of the municipalities concerned there are events. In San Quirico d’Orcia the Orcia Wine Festival in April each year opens its doors to thousands of wine lovers and operators in the oenology field. In the future Orcia wine will be more visible so as to create new commercial opportunities.

Donatella Cinelli Colombini is also the national president of “Women in Wine” and can boast in her curriculum of the creation in 1993 of the open day of wineries “Cantine Aperte” which increased wine tourism in Italy. She comes from a historic family of Brunello winemakers and she herself has a winery in Montalcino. During the last 15 years she has dedicated particular attention to Orcia wine and owns a farm and winery in the denomination in Trequanda.
